Administration & Practice Workshop focused on DRBs – DRBF Region 1 / US and Canada practice with non-binding recommendations. 

This workshop is designed for those new to the DRB process, interested in serving on DRBs, and those implementing DRBs for the first time.

Trainers:

Ferdinand (Ferdi) Fourie started his career as a civil engineer. He continued his education and holds degrees in civil engineering, business administration and law.  Ferdi joined the legal department of Kiewit Corporation as a senior attorney in 1992.  He later became the Corporate Director – Contract and Claims Administration for the company.  His responsibilities included the development and maintenance of contract management systems to avoid disputes, which included the effective use of DRBs.  He retired from Kiewit at the end of 2017 and is since focusing on assisting projects with their dispute avoidance and claims resolution efforts.  He is currently serving as a panel member on five DRBs. He served as President of the DRBF Region 1 Board of Directors (2018) and is a member of the DRBF Region 1 Training and DRBF Region 1 Transportation Subcommittees.

Elizabeth Tippin is recognized as an expert on dispute resolution in the design and construction arena with over thirty years of experience as outside general counsel to A/E firms including contract negotiations and risk management. Her legal career includes being appointed as an Administrative Law Judge, Arbitrator, Mediator, Special Master, Dispute Resolution Board Member and Partnering Facilitator for over 1500 projects. Her experience includes both public and private projects involved with various project delivery methods, including design build and P3 projects. She is a member of numerous ADR panels including numerous dispute board panels; American Arbitration Association Large and Complex Construction Panels; California Contractors State License Board Arbitrator Panel; and USCIB Arbitration and Mediation Panels. She was Adjunct Faculty for 17 years, teaching design and construction law and has lectured extensively on dispute resolution processes. She is a LEED Accredited Professional on sustainable design concepts. She was appointed as a 2020 and 2021 Northern California Super Lawyers for Alternative Dispute Resolution and received the Award for Distinguished Contribution to the Field of Mediation from the Mediation Society. She is currently President of the Dispute Resolution Board Foundation, Region One, and she has lectured and taught workshops on the DRB process worldwide.
